Back-to-School Year Info

Dear Maitland Families,

I appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to safely start the school year. We were excited to welcome teachers back today, and begin planning for the return of students, both face to face and virtually.

Based on choice enrollment data, we are busy trying to place children appropriately. I understand that, for a moment, some schedules were visible before being restricted again. Please understand, as of now, all schedules are subject to change based on registration choice and teacher availability. Even when schedules are released, we will still be in the process of adjusting to meet the needs of students. I would ask for your patience during this difficult scheduling time and refrain from requesting a schedule change unless there is a serious academic concern.

Please mark your calendars for Wednesday August 5th when we will hold digital device distribution here at MMS. This event will only be for those students who do not already have a school issued laptop, which are rising 6th grade students, and any students who are new to Maitland. Please check Facebook, and the MMS website for more information and to select a time slot. During device distribution, we ask that you park in the back of the school by the media center and arrive at your selected time – not early. Additionally, we ask that you limit the number of people to only the student and one parent/guardian. Finally, we ask that you wear a mask and practice social distancing while on campus. For those 7th and 8th grade students who have a device that might not be working correctly, please contact the front office to schedule an appointment with Mr. Feinberg.

I understand there are many questions about Meet the Teacher. Unfortunately, this year, Meet the Teacher will be virtual. We are still working out the details, but will share with the community once we have a procedure in place.

For planning purposes, middle school fall sports have been pushed to the spring semester. The goal is to offer one gym sport and one field sport during the 3rd and 4th marking period. I understand that this is disappointing, but we will make the best of this situation.

Finally, I would encourage parents to stay involved this school year. Please consider joining the PTA or the School Advisory Council.

Again, I understand that these are challenging times to begin a school year. But with the support of our teachers, staff, parents, and community as a whole, I’m confident we will offer phenomenal educational opportunities for our students in a safe and orderly manner.
