Golden Hawk Family,
I look forward to seeing all the students back to school on August 12th and having the opportunity to meet with families at Meet Your Teacher on August 8th (2pm-4pm) . I wanted to share some information about myself since I am one of the new faces on campus.
I have over 30 years of experience in education and I am an experienced Middle School Principal. I have been a school leader in both urban and affluent schools. I understand the challenges of leading a high-performing middle school and have a proven record of success as a principal. Throughout my career, I have supported the expansion of higher level courses, supported the Arts, and embraced technology as a Middle School Principal.
Recently, I was given the honor to return back to OCPS as Principal of Maitland Middle School. This opportunity affirmed my desire to remain a principal at a secondary school and assist with preparing students for their future.
Some career accomplishments include:
- Guided Independence Middle School (School District of Palm Beach County) during the pandemic and developed systems to support online teaching and learning. The school maintained an “A-Rating” after school accountability returned.
- Principal Supervisor of eleven middle schools, including five Title I schools that served over 11,000 students within the School District of Palm Beach County.
- During my tenure as the Assistant Superintendent of Professional Growth, the district launched a conference style Teacher Fest and Principal Leadership Academy. I helped transform leadership development by creating a partnership with FAU (EXEQ program).
- Previously in OCPS, I was Principal of East River High School for four years where I led the transformation of that school to earn an “A-Rating” during the 2012-13 school year. This school had been a D-Rated school prior to my arrival.
- I was a top 3 finalist for the State of Florida’s Principal of the Year in 2014.
- I was recognized by Orange County Media Specialists as the Distinguished Administrator of the Year for 2010 when I was Principal at Maitland Middle School (2008-2011). The school was a three time "A" Rated Middle School during my tenure.
- As an Assistant Principal, I spent 2 years at Jones High School in Orlando, Florida and helped remove the school from the state’s “F” list.
- I was recognized as Teacher of the Year at Gotha Middle School in 2000 and received the Outstanding Teacher Award by Rollins College in 2003.
- In addition, I served in the US Air Force and was a member of the Best Security Police Group recognized by the US Air Force in 1988.
This is a great school with wonderful students, parents, teachers, and staff. I am excited to lead this wonderful school as we prepare our Golden Hawks to “SOAR to New Heights".

6th Grade Orientation
6th Grade Orientation will be August 1st from 2-3:30pm. Join us in the Café to learn about Maitland MS. We will have representation from Administration, PTA, the Registrar, Staffing Specialist, Athletics, Curriculum, and the YMCA. Students will have an opportunity to tour the campus through a scavenger hunt.
New families (7th & 8th graders) to MMS are invited to attend as well.
